Thomas S. Monson (1927-2018) was an American religious leader and the 16th president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), serving from 2008 until his death in 2018. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. Monson began his career in publishing and was ordained an LDS apostle at age 36. Throughout his life, Monson held various leadership positions within the church, including serving in the First Presidency under three church presidents. His presidency was marked by significant initiatives, such as lowering the age for missionary service and expanding humanitarian efforts. Monson was also deeply involved in the Boy Scouts of America, receiving several of its highest honors. He was known for his compassionate service and personal ministry.
