M. Russell Ballard (1928-2023) was an American businessman and religious leader. Ballard had a diverse career in business, including automotive, real estate, and investment ventures. He was called to the First Quorum of the Seventy in 1976 and later to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1985. He served as the Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 2018 until his death in 2023. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended the University of Utah and served as a missionary in England as a young man. Ballard was a respected leader and speaker, known for his focus on missionary work and church administration.
