Boyd K. Packer (1924 – 2015) was an influential American religious leader and educator. He served as the President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 2008 until his death. Born in Brigham City, Utah, Packer was the tenth of eleven children. He served as a bomber pilot during World War II and later pursued higher education, earning degrees from Utah State University and Brigham Young University. Packer was known for his work in the Church Educational System and his extensive service as a general authority of the LDS Church, beginning in 1961. Throughout his life, Packer was also an accomplished artist, particularly known for his bird carvings. He married Donna Smith in 1947, and they had ten children together.
