Richard G. Scott (1928-2015) was an American nuclear engineer and religious leader. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho. He grew up in Washington, D.C., and graduated from George Washington University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served a mission in Uruguay and later worked on the U.S. Navy's nuclear program under Admiral Hyman Rickover. In 1977, Scott was called as a general authority of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). In 1988, he became a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He was known for his deep spirituality, love for the natural world, and dedication to family. Scott passed away on September 22, 2015.
