Freedom is so hard and annoying and messy why do I want you to have it if the natural way of things is one person rules and everybody else follows why not just fall into the natural way and the reason is without freedom you will never know joy you will never have the full life that God meant you to have in the Declaration it says that God gave you certain rights among them the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness and we talk about happiness sometimes as if they want you to be happy like you just have a great date or you're just made a lot of money or something like that that's not the kind of happiness they were talking about that happiness comes and goes when sad things happen you'll be sad when happy things happen you'll be happy the kind of happiness that the founders were talking about is what the Greeks called eudaimonia means good spirit it really means human flourishing it's what Jesus called life in abundance that's what they wanted you to pursue they wanted you to pursue eudaimonia where does it come from well Aristotle said that it came from virtue that people did not experience eudaimonia until they had virtue and jesus said that virtue largely consists of loving God and loving your neighbor as you love yourself.
and all you got to do is think it through you can't have love if you're not free if you're not free to choose your love it's not love at the point of a sword you can't have virtue at the point of the sword you have to be able to choose it it's not charity when Elizabeth Warren takes this guy's money and gives it to this guy it's charity when you reach into your pocket and say I would have liked to go to the movies but here's five bucks go buy yourself a burger that's charity that hurts that's hard everything else is just degrading
There is no true love and there is no true virtue unless you're free to choose them.
"I am an anti-feminist," Klavan says. "Feminism is a mean-spirited, small-minded and oppressive philosophy that can poison relations between the sexes, relations which, for most of us, provide some of life’s deepest pleasures and consolations."
So the thing that really is poignant to me, and the thing that I want to get to is the fact that the Hong Kongers — desperate to preserve their freedom, under the gun with people being kidnapped and disappearing and laws creeping in there that are meant to erode their freedoms — are waving the American flag. And they're singing our "Star-Spangled Banner." They are waving the American flag. And this is — I mean this should move all of us. This should touch every single one of us, and remind us that when people look for freedom, when they are afraid of oppression, when they strive to become the one thing that all great people have to be — which is free — and all individuals want to be, which is free. And the only thing that gives nobility to charity the only thing that gives nobility to faith in God, the only thing that gives nobility to a person is if he chooses those things freely. Right, if you choose to believe you — don't believe at the edge of a sword because that has no legitimacy.
And here’s the thing, my left-wing friends: your ideas stink. Your woke identity politics is racism. Your feminism is a form of intellectual sexual abuse. Your economics is a recipe for economic and cultural disaster. And so, when I, your intellectual and moral superior, slap you in the face as you deserve, you will smile and say thanks or go to hell – either one is fine by me.
This week, in what may be one of the most misjudged moments in the history of television, CNN anchor Don Lemon and his two guests, Rick Wilson and Wajahat Ali, laughed themselves silly over the stupidity of what Wilson called (in a mock southern accent), the “credulous boomer rube demo that backs Donald Trump that wants to think that Donald Trump is the smart one and y’all elitists are dumb.”
"What's the result?" he asks. "Take a look at the quintessential feminist icon, Rosie the Riveter, flexing her muscle. The truth is: Any man of the same size and fitness can make a bigger, stronger, muscle than Rosie can. By herding women away from their feminine natures, feminism seeks to transform them from first-rate women into second-rate men."
Klavan goes on to break down how "honest thought and good will" can help society bridge the gap of the sexes "without the angry, bitter and dishonest attacks on our human nature by feminists."
Klavan explains how feminism has degraded men as "toxic," choosing to focus on men's flaws rather than on what makes the male sex a benefit to society.
He continues, "Feminism has attempted to bully us all into accepting an obvious lie: the lie that men and women have the same powers, talents, proclivities and desires and that, consequently, any discrepancy in their professional paths is due to bigotry and must be corrected by force of culture and law. By shoving that lie down our throats, feminism has made both men and women less happy and less free."
It’s time for America to take a good long look in the mirror — a very large mirror that can hold an entire country in it — and ask itself, “America, how are you ever going to recover from the disaster of the Trump administration?” In the aftermath of this tragic detour from our noble history, how will we manage to move past a world in which horrifically deplorable red state troglodytes, some of whom don’t even have the common decency to live in Los Angeles, have actual jobs with rising wages instead of the life of unemployment and despair they so richly deserve? These, after all, are the kinds of jobs our upstanding scandal-free last president Barack Obama told us were never coming back. How despicable that Trump has undermined America’s faith in the institution of the presidency by making Obama look like an incompetent buffoon. On top of this, these new jobs could have gone to some needy African child, bringing a few extra pennies an hour into his struggling life. Instead, under Trump, these jobs have been plucked from that child’s hungry little hands by racist white males in some godawful place like Iowa. At least I assume they’re racist white males. I’ve never been to Iowa, but who else would live in a place like that? Also, many of these new jobs are producing energy through dangerous processes like whatever they do to produce energy. And as we all know, within twelve years, energy production will totally destroy life in our imaginations, though of course real life will continue with its grotesque jet travel and electricity making the world worse for everyone. But don’t lose hope. Trump can’t stay in office forever. Some time soon, our nation will begin to heal, and return to the days when the cop on the beat could be falsely accused of racism so that riots destroyed black communities and distracted the locals from the crappy economy brought on by leftist policies. There are great days still ahead.
