I'm busy; but not in the way most people accept. I'm busy calming my fear and finding my courage. I'm busy listening to my kids. I'm busy getting in touch with what is real. I'm busy growing things and connecting with the natural world. I'm busy questioning my answers. I'm busy being present in my life.
There are three deaths. The first is when the body ceases to function. The second is when the body is consigned to the grave. The third is that moment, sometime in the future, when your name is spoken for the last time.
The combination of affluence and secularism produces boredom as surely as the combination of hydrogen and oxygen produces water. Without affluence, people have a built-in purpose: obtaining food and shelter, supporting oneself and one’s family, etc. And religion, with or without affluence, likewise has always provided people with meaning. Without religion, therefore, purpose is often lost. Add to that the number of people who are not married and do not have children (also a result of the combination of affluence and secularism) and you remove another universal source of meaning.
What you do every day should contribute to giving your life meaning. If it doesn't, why are you doing it?
He who has a 'why' to live, can bear with almost any 'how'.
Stay true to the principles and values that breathe life into any human interaction by starting all influence attempts with a virtuous purpose.
Use your skills to work with, and not on, people.
It's not so much how busy you are, but why you are busy. The bee is praised; the mosquito is swatted.
Go where you can make a difference.
Perfect freedom is reserved for the man who lives by his own work, and in that work does what he wants to do.
Find out what you really like if you can. Find out what is really important to you. Then sing your song. You will have something to sing about and your whole heart will be in the singing.
The ultimate source of a meaningful life is within our own self. Usually everybody seeks happiness, joyfulness from the outside, from money, from power, from a big car, from a big house. The ultimate source of a happy life, even physical health, is inside not outside.
At any moment, man must decide, for better or for worse, what will be the monument of his existence.
