Our teacher asked first what stood out to us in this weeks reading. Deacons to have one wife, exercise profiteth little, drink wine not water. He then discussed sending back an escaped slave with a message for his master to treat him as a brother in Christ. Setting up that some of the things in this reading are culture not accepted today. He then took on the part about women, and pointed out that it had been quoted to justify discrimination against, and abuse of women ever since. At one stage he asked men to be quiet and listen to the women. His wife is a feminist. The teacher has been in stake presiencies. He brought up the “me too” movement as positive. There was some push back but lesson very good, no contention or anything.
