Similar prophetic calls to Jerusalem to shake herself from the dust (2 Ne. 8:25; 3 Ne. 20:37; Moro. 10:31) are calls for her to come back from her downtrodden position of obscurity to the high eminence she should occupy in the eternal scheme of things. The Book of Mormon expression that men are “less than the dust of the earth,” as the context shows, has reference to the fact that the dust is obedient to the commands of the Creator, whereas men rebel against his will.
