When Amulek spoke of death as the “night of darkness wherein there can be no labor performed” (Alma 34;33), he had reference to those who had full opportunity to accept the gospel in the flesh and did not do so. It is a serious doctrinal error to suppose that those who reject that opportunity in this life because they have no desire to conform to gospel standards may correct the matter in the spirit world. The willfully disobedient will not be cleansed from their sins simply because they have the good fortune to have someone labor in their behalf after they are dead. The book of life from which each man will be judged will be the book he has written on his own soul.Share
