There are important contrasts between the lesser or Aaronic Priesthood and the greater or Melchizedek Priesthood. The Aaronic Priesthood deals with the temporal matters and outward ordinances of the law and the gospel (D&C 107:20; see also 1 Chronicles 23:27–32), including “the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins” (D&C 13:1). The Melchizedek Priesthood holds the “keys of all the spiritual blessings of the church—to have the privilege of receiving the mysteries of the kingdom,” “even the key of the knowledge of God” (D&C 107:18–19; 84:19). Through its ordinances “the power of godliness is manifest,” and the face of God may be beheld (D&C 84:20, 22).— LDS Beliefs
