Leaders of the Church from the days of the Prophet Joseph Smith to the present have unequivocally taught of the eternal significance of the family and the sacred role of parents. “No other success can compensate for failure in the home” was a maxim often cited by President David O. McKay. Likewise, President Harold B. Lee often taught Church members that “the most important of the Lord’s work you will ever do will be within the walls of your own homes.” It is because of these prophetic admonitions—ancient and modern—coupled with the knowledge that families are indeed intended to be eternal, that Latter-day Saints place so much emphasis on strengthening family relationships.
