New Jerusalem–One of the foundational doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is that the latter-day city of Zion, also known in the scriptures as the New Jerusalem, “will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory” (Articles of Faith 1:10). During the Millennium, there will be two world capitals of God’s kingdom on earth—the city of Jerusalem on the eastern continent and the New Jerusalem on the American continent. Jerusalem will be a gathering place for the righteous descendants of Judah and other tribes of Israel, whereas the New Jerusalem will be primarily for the seed of Joseph.
