There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.
At one point Asher sagely brought up "You know, this hike is kind of like life. It might be harder than you thought it would be, but it is worth it."
Life is a gift, accept it! Life is an adventure, dare it! Life is a mystery, unfold it! Life is a puzzle, solve it! Life is a game, play it! Life can be a struggle, face it! Life is beautiful, praise it! Life is an opportunity, take it! Life is a mission, fulfill it!
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take - but by the moments that take our breath away.
If we found a human embryo on another planet, the headlines would rightly scream, 'Human Life Found On Mars.
Human life is a continuous process of growth, from the moment of fertilization onward. Abortion is the killing of this human life. The later the abortion takes place, the more brutal the procedure, but no matter the brutality of the procedure, it is obvious that abortion is not some mere optional surgery to be performed for convenience. And it’s even more obvious that those who want to protect the lives of the unborn aren’t trying to control women’s bodies.
Those who cherish abortion are trying to control and dismember the bodies of the unborn. Think about that next time you see a radical feminist in a Handmaid's Tale outfit suggesting that you’d better respect her right to carve apart an unborn baby in the womb or you’re some sort of fascist.
"When you look at someone through rose-coloured glasses, all the red flags just look like flags."
I'm busy; but not in the way most people accept. I'm busy calming my fear and finding my courage. I'm busy listening to my kids. I'm busy getting in touch with what is real. I'm busy growing things and connecting with the natural world. I'm busy questioning my answers. I'm busy being present in my life.
And it must needs be that the devil should tempt the children of men, or they could not be agents unto themselves."
To be happy at work, as in life, we need to feel in control: that we choose and own our jobs, instead of them owning us. The fastest way to this kind of job satisfaction is good cultural fit: congruence between our goals, values, and personality, and those of the organization we work for.
That it will never come again Is what makes life so sweet.
There is more to life than increaseing its speed.
"Life is not about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself"
Many people never stop to think what life means. They hurry and scurry, they run to and fro upon the earth, exploring the paths that lead nowhere. They waste their energies in futile attempts that gain nothing. It is as if they tried to lift themselves up by their wastebands or to walk on their heads. Not until fate, or Destiny, or some other fellow knocks them out, do they learn to look within themselves for happiness.
We differ, blind and seeing, not in the nature of our handicap, but in the understanding and idealism we put into the art of living. It is only when we put imagination and feeling behind the senses that they attain their full value.
What a strange life I lead - a kind of Cinderella-Life - half glitter in crystal shoes, half mice and cinders! But it is a wonderful life all the same.
It is no true optimism to declare the world is a good world when it is not. It is for us rather to insist that it shall be made good, and exert ourselves to bring it out.
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen nor even touched, but just felt in the heart.
We must not allow the clock and the calendar to blind us to the fact that each moment of life is a miracle and mystery.
The Sacred Dancer by Isabelle Andres She dances to the rhythms of her life, Fully attuned to the choreography of her heart, She floats in the harmonious space of her notes, Bringing to life in the spur of a moment a whole orchestra, She makes visible the invisible, Her hands write words only she can read, Her body whispers stories only she can hear, Her eyes are the gateways to emotions only she can feel, Her strength and grace reflect the divine, She awakens in those who watch her, The sacred seed of their own heart, She dances wholeheartedly, She is alive.
Few persons set out deliberately to miss the wonder and richness of living, but it is treacherously easy to do it. A postponement here, a side stepping there, a hesitant retreat - and a life may diminish behind a wall of negatives: No, I can’t; I won’t; it can never happen—and the rhetoric goes on in people’s minds, cheating them of opportunities to grow and to find joy… Life is a journey - a process of singing our songs - of finding out who we are and what we may become. We’re all born to unspecified possibilities, and the more we risk, the more we discover about ourselves...
When I do the best I can---when I am accomplishing the greatest good, then the most evils are got up against me.
Think Like a Tree Soak up the sun Affirm life’s magic Be graceful in the wind Stand tall after a storm Feel refreshed after it rains Grow strong without notice Be prepared for each season Provide shelter to strangers Hang tough through a cold spell Emerge renewed at the first signs of spring Stay deeply rooted while reaching for the sky Be still long enough to hear your own leaves rustling.
God carefully scales "all these things," since we cannot bear all things now. He has told us: "Behold, ye are little children and ye cannot bear all things now; ye must grow in grace and in the knowledge of the truth." (D&C 50:40.) We will not be able to say shruggingly at judgment time, "I was overcome by the world because I was overprogrammed or overtempted." For the promises are that temptation can either be escaped or endured. (1 Corinthians 10:13.) The promise is also that throughout tribulation God's grace is sufficient for us—He will see us through. (2 Corinthians 12:9; Ether 12:26-27.) Thus, for a host of reasons, correct conduct under stress is more likely when one has correct expectations about life. If we understand the basic purpose of life, we will find it easier to see purpose in our own life.
Evil people exist. The in-betweeners merely survive. But those who have really lived will be those who have lived righteously, because they will have lived righteously and served selflessly in a time of stunning contrasts. They will have managed to keep clean in a dirty world. And being free, they will be happy in otherwise sad times, and all their experiences will be for their good.
To use the supposed errors of others, including those of the Brethren, as an excuse for our lessened devotion is a most grave error! All of us are in the process of becoming—including prophets and General Authorities.
There are even those who refuse to follow the Brethren because these individuals have overidentified with a single doctrine, principle, or practice; sadly, they exclude all other counsel, which leads to a dangerous spiritual imbalance. The difficulty with such individuals is that they have a strange sense of justification about that which they are doing. In their intensity they lack, of course, the spiritual symmetry that comes from pursuing, in a balanced way, all the commandments of God. These individuals are so hardened in their devotion to one thing that they are unable to follow the Brethren in all things. It is as if the adversary, upon seeing someone get religious, skillfully deflects their devotion so that it becomes a damaging and not a developing thing. We are responsible for our reactions when we see imperfections in others.
We may, therefore, see the imperfections in leaders in the Church. How we react to these manifestations of mortality is the key to our salvation—not theirs!
It is strange that when one is remodeling a portion of his house, he expects visitors to be tolerant of improvements that are so obviously underway. Yet while one is remodeling his character, we often feel obligated to call attention to the messy signs of remodeling, or feel called upon to remember aloud things as they were. Forgetting is such a necessary part of forgiving.
Don't dwell on how it can go wrong, focus on how it can go right.
Without an exceptional life, there is no reason to work. There is no reason to work if doing so deprives you of all of the experiences that make a up a happy and fulfilled life. The more fulfilled you are in your personal life, the more you bring your best self to your work.
Instead of believing that work comes before everything else or that everything else comes before work, start with idea that you are designing an exceptional life. You want an exceptional personal life AND an exceptional work life. After all, they’re both important parts of your one life.
Life is the art of drawing sufficient conclusions from insufficient premises.
Jesus changed men. He changed their habits, their opinions, their ambitions. He changed their tempers, their dispositions, their natures. He changed men's hearts. The passage of time has not altered the capacity of the Redeemer to change men's lives. As He said to the dead Lazarus, so He says to you and me: "Come forth." (John 11:43.) Come forth from the despair of doubt. Come forth from the sorrow of sin. Come forth from the death of disbelief. Come forth to a newness of life. Come forth.
Such was the burden of our Savior's message, when He declared: "For all who will have a blessing at my hands shall abide the law which was appointed for that blessing, and the conditions thereof, as were instituted from before the foundation of the world." (D&C 132:5.)
At times the preparation period may appear dull, uninteresting, and even unnecessary. But experience continues to demonstrate that the future belongs to those who prepare for it. And if we are to become leaders, we cannot skimp on our preparation.
Decision is of little account unless it is followed by action.
The road back to God is not nearly so steep nor is it so difficult as some would have us believe.
Some may question, But what is the value of such an illustrious list of heroes, even a private Hall of Fame? I answer: When we obey as did Adam, endure as did Job, teach as did Paul, testify as did Peter, serve as did Nephi, give ourselves as did the Prophet Joseph, respond as did Ruth, honor as did Mary, and live as did Christ, we are born anew. All power becomes ours. Cast off forever is the old self, and with it defeat, despair, doubt, and disbelief. To a newness of life we come—a life of faith, hope, courage, and joy. No task looms too large. No responsibility weighs too heavily. No duty is a burden. All things become possible.
In a revelation given through the Prophet Joseph Smith at Kirtland, Ohio, in May of 1833, the Lord declared: "Truth is knowledge of things as they are, and as they were, and as they are to come. . . . The Spirit of truth is of God. . . . He [Jesus] received a fulness of truth, yea, even of all truth; And no man receiveth a fulness unless he keepeth his commandments. He that keepeth his commandments receiveth truth and light, until he is glorified in truth and knoweth all things." (D&C 93:24, 26-28.) There is no need for you or me in this enlightened age, when the fulness of the gospel has been restored, to sail uncharted seas or travel unmarked roads in search of a "fountain of truth." For a living Heavenly Father has plotted our course and provided an unfailing map—obedience
We cannot restrict our thinking to today's problems alone. We have the obligation to plan for tomorrow's opportunities. We are limited only by our thoughts and personal determination to convert these thoughts to realities. Henry Ford, the industrialist, taught us, "An educated man is not one who has trained his mind to retain a few dates in history. He is one who can accomplish things. Unless a man has learned to think, he is not an educated man, regardless of how many college degrees he has after his name."
A choice has to be made. There are no minor or insignificant decisions in our lives. Decisions determine destiny. Whether we like it or not, we are engaged in the race of our lives. At stake is eternal life—yours and mine. What will be the outcome? Will we be servants of God? Or will we be servants of sin?
We are the sons and daughters of Almighty God. We have a destiny to fulfill, a life to live, a contribution to make, a goal to achieve.
The greatest use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it.
