The measure of a real man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.
a taste for battle, an ethic of intellectual honesty
When we see men of a contrary character, we should turn inwards and examine ourselves.
Trust is built on 2 components, character and competence.
There needs to be a new emphasis on honesty, character, and integrity in our time. Only as we build again into the fiber of our lives the virtues that are the essence of true civilization will the pattern of our times change.
Character is like the fire within the flint - latent until it is struck out of the stone. Obeserving the flint stone, who would think it contained the possibility of light? And so it is with the dark experiences of life. When they are met with courage, they give out sparks of spiritual light.
We should cultivate a meek, quiet and peaceable spirit.
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands in times of challenge and controversy.
We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education.
Love and patience are never wasted; they only appear to be. The devoted wife and mother who is a quiet but effective neighbor but whose obituary is noticed by a comparative few may well have laid up precious little here in the current coin-of-the-realm, recognition, yet rising with her in the resurrection will be relevant attributes and skills honed and refined in family and neighborhood life.
The Color Code helps us to ‘get ourselves’ and then to ‘get others.’ Then The Character Code sets us on the road to “character” as we replace our limitations with strengths.”
As a YELLOW, I worked on being thoughtful for an entire year. My BLUE wife once commented that being thoughtful was such an easy task, perhaps I should work on something more challenging. So I said to her, ‘why don’t you wake up happy every day (something I do very easily) and see how hard different gifts are for different personalities.’ She didn’t say another word because she realized that what is easy for some colors is very challenging for others.
I realized that every color limitation has an antidote in one of the other colors. It takes humility to accept and acknowledge the things we do that limit us, then look for the antidote and work to develop it. This brings “character” versus simply slipping through life relying on our innate strengths and enduring our limitations.
Character is much easier kept than recovered.
