Will Rogers (1879-1935) was an American vaudeville performer, actor, and humorist. Known as "Oklahoma's Favorite Son," Rogers gained fame for his witty and folksy social commentary. He was born William Penn Adair Rogers on November 4, 1879, in the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory (now part of Oklahoma). Rogers began his career in vaudeville, performing rope tricks and eventually incorporating humorous monologues into his act. His success in vaudeville led to roles in the Ziegfeld Follies and a prolific film career, where he appeared in 71 films, including both silent movies and "talkies". He also wrote more than 4,000 nationally syndicated newspaper columns and became a popular radio personality.
