Wayne Gretzky is widely regarded as one of the greatest ice hockey players of all time. Known as "The Great One", Gretzky's career in the National Hockey League (NHL) spanned 20 seasons from 1979 to 1999. He was born on January 26, 1961, in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. Gretzky began his professional career with the Indianapolis Racers of the World Hockey Association (WHA) before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers. When the Oilers joined the NHL, Gretzky led them to four Stanley Cup victories in the 1980s. He set numerous records, including the most career points (2,857) and goals (894) in NHL history. After his time with the Oilers, Gretzky played for the Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, and New York Rangers.
