Vince Lombardi (1913-1970) was a legendary American football coach and executive. He is best known for his tenure as head coach of the Green Bay Packers during the 1960s, where he led the team to five NFL Championships, including victories in the first two Super Bowls. He was born on June 11, 1913, in Brooklyn, New York. Lombardi's coaching career began at the high school level before he moved on to assistant coaching positions at Fordham University and the U.S. Military Academy. He joined the NFL as an assistant coach for the New York Giants in 1954 and became the head coach and general manager of the Packers in 1959. Lombardi never had a losing season as an NFL head coach. He is known for his rigorous training methods and motivational skills. After leaving the Packers, Lombardi coached the Washington Redskins for one season in 1969, leading them to their first winning season in 14 years. He passed away on September 3, 1970.
