T.S. Eliot
Thomas Stearns Eliot (1888-1965) commonly known as T.S. Eliot was an American-English poet, playwright, literary critic, and editor, and is considered one of the 20th century's greatest poets. He was born on September 26, 1888, in St. Louis, Missouri. Eliot's education included studies at Harvard University, the Sorbonne in Paris, and Merton College, Oxford. He settled in England, where he worked as a schoolmaster, bank clerk, and eventually as a literary editor for the publishing house Faber & Faber. In 1927, he became a British citizen and converted to Anglicanism. Eliot was a leading figure in the Modernist movement in poetry, known for works such as "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" (1915), "The Waste Land" (1922), and "Four Quartets" (1943). His innovative use of language, style, and verse structure revitalized English poetry. He also wrote several plays, including "Murder in the Cathedral" (1935) and "The Cocktail Party" (1949). Eliot's contributions to literature were recognized with numerous awards, including the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948. He died on January 4, 1965, in London, England. His work continues to influence poets and writers around the world.
