Steve Irwin
Steve Irwin (1962-2006) was a renowned wildlife conservationist, television personality, and environmentalist. He gained international fame as the exuberant host of the television series "The Crocodile Hunter," which aired from 1992 to 2006. He was born on February 22, 1962, in Essendon, Victoria, Australia. Irwin's passion for wildlife was nurtured from a young age by his parents, who founded the Beerwah Reptile Park (later renamed Australia Zoo) in Queensland. He began handling crocodiles at the age of nine and became skilled in capturing and relocating them as part of Queensland's East Coast Crocodile Management program. In 1991, Irwin took over the management of the family zoo and married Terri Raines, an American naturalist, in 1992. Together, they co-hosted "The Crocodile Hunter" and other wildlife documentaries, which showcased their adventures and conservation efforts. Irwin's energetic and fearless approach to wildlife education captivated audiences worldwide and raised awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation. Tragically, Steve Irwin died on September 4, 2006, after being pierced by a stingray barb while filming an underwater documentary off the coast of Port Douglas, Queensland. His legacy continues through the ongoing work of Australia Zoo and the conservation organization Wildlife Warriors Worldwide, founded by the Irwin family.
