Peter Thiel is a German-American entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and political activist. He is best known for co-founding PayPal, Palantir Technologies, and Founders Fund, and for being the first outside investor in Facebook. He was born on October 11, 1967, in Frankfurt, Germany. Thiel moved to the United States with his family when he was a child and grew up in California. He studied philosophy at Stanford University, where he co-founded "The Stanford Review," a conservative and libertarian newspaper. After earning his law degree from Stanford Law School, Thiel briefly worked as a lawyer and a derivatives trader before venturing into the tech industry.
In 1998, Thiel co-founded PayPal, an online payment company, which was sold to eBay in 2002 for $1.5 billion.
