James Thomas Anthony Valvano (1946-1993), affectionately known as "Jimmy V," was an American college basketball player, coach, and broadcaster. He was born on March 10, 1946, in Queens, New York. Valvano had a successful coaching career, most notably leading North Carolina State University to the 1983 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.
