Groucho Marx (1890-1977) was an American comedian, actor, writer, and singer. He is best known as a member of the Marx Brothers comedy team. He was born Julius Henry Marx on October 2, 1890, in New York City. Groucho was famous for his quick wit, distinctive appearance (thick greasepaint mustache and eyebrows, and a cigar), and his unique style of humor. The Marx Brothers, including Groucho, Chico, Harpo, Gummo, and Zeppo, made 13 feature films, such as "Duck Soup" and "A Night at the Opera", which became classics of comedy. Groucho also had a successful solo career, notably hosting the radio and television game show "You Bet Your Life". Groucho passed away on August 19, 1977, in Los Angeles, California. His legacy as one of America's greatest comedians lives on.
