Gordon Bitner Hinckley (1910-2008) was a prominent American religious leader and author. He served as the 15th President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from March 12, 1995, until his death on January 27, 2008. He was born on June 23, 1910, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was raised in a large, close-knit family that fostered his love of learning and resilient faith. Hinckley graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in English in 1932. He served as a missionary in Great Britain from 1933 to 1935. This missionary experience profoundly shaped his future service in the church. Upon returning, he began working for the church, eventually becoming a key figure in its public relations and missionary efforts. He was called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1961 and later served in the First Presidency under three church presidents before becoming president himself.
