Colin Powell (1937-2021) was an American statesman and a retired four-star general in the United States Army. He was born on April 5, 1937, in Harlem, New York City, to Jamaican immigrant parents. Powell served as the 65th United States Secretary of State from 2001 to 2005, becoming the first African American to hold this position. Before that, he was the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1989 to 1993 and National Security Advisor from 1987 to 1989. Powell played a significant role in several military operations, including the Gulf War and the invasion of Panama. He was known for his moderate political views and efforts to build international coalitions. Powell passed away on October 18, 2021, due to complications from COVID-19.
