Anne Frank (1929-1945) was a German-born Jewish girl who became famous for her diary documenting her life in hiding during World War II. She was born on June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt, Germany. Anne and her Jewish family went into hiding in Amsterdam in 1942 to escape Nazi persecution. They lived in a secret annex for two years before being discovered and deported to concentration camps. Anne died in Bergen-Belsen in early 1945, but her father survived and later published her diary, "The Diary of a Young Girl," which has since become a classic of war literature.
