Amelia Earhart (1897-1937) was an American aviation pioneer and author. She was born on July 24, 1897, in Atchison, Kansas. In 1932, she became the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Earhart set numerous aviation records and was a prominent advocate for women's rights and opportunities in aviation. On July 2, 1937, during an attempt to circumnavigate the globe, she mysteriously disappeared over the Pacific Ocean on route to Howland Island from Lae, New Guinea. Her fate remains one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of the 20th century.
